Fellowship At First Baptist Church of Oak Park

Fellowship and community are integral aspects of the First Baptist culture. Our members enjoy weekly, monthly, and annual fellowship events that help us to foster and strengthen our relationships. Weekly fellowship includes Sunday schools, mid-week discussion and prayer groups, and ministry to the shut-ins. Some of the past events of our ministry of fun have been Friday night movies, bingo nights, and second Saturday book club. Other fellowship events include Gratitude luncheon, Easter breakfast, burgers and puns, museum visit, and festivals on our lawn.

These events have also provided opportunities to invite our neighbors, like the patrons at Housing Forward, and to become acquainted with our new members and guests.

Sunday School Options

Children’s Sunday School

The children’s classes are run concurrently with the morning worship service. Children are invited to join their parents in the sanctuary and then are dismissed to their classes after the first hymn.

Veritas Class

Teacher: Dr. David John Hailey, John Howland, Mithun Roy Parlor 11:15 AM

The theme of this class is based on John 8:32—Then you will know the truth (veritas), and the truth will set you free. Come, join us in the search of ‘veritas’.

Ministry to the Shut-Ins

“I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” -Gospel of Matthew 25:36

The purpose of this ministry is to provide communion on a regular basis to those who request it, whether at home or in a health-care facility, and who are not able to attend church services with any frequency. Yet the ministry is more than a communion ministry. It helps in maintaining church contact with members and friends through visitation, cards and phone calls. We want our shut-ins to know that they are not forgotten.

Our Ministry of Fun

Believing that fellowship is a form of worship, the Ministry of Fun was created. It’s goal is to bring people together from multi-generations, backgrounds and ethnicity for the purpose of building and maintaining positive social connections through constructive recreational and entertaining activities.

In the past these have included game nights, cook-offs, summer concerts in the park, museum visits and “Check Please” dinners.

All parishioners are welcome to join the Ministry of Fun team, partake in it’s activities or give suggestions for future activities.

Prayer Ministry

“May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.”
-Psalm of David 141:2

Join us each Thursday for prayer on Zoom at 6:00 PM.
