Teleology is the idea that phenomena in nature or human actions are explained by their ultimate purpose or goal rather than their immediate causes. Essentially, it's looking at the "why" by focusing on the "end result," with the Greek roots of the word meaning "purpose" (telos) and "study of" (-logy).
